Jeremiah 1:4 Now the word of the Lord came to me (the prophet Jeremiah) saying, 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Two points strike me this morning:
- This is a powerful testament to the sacred nature of human life. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you…” testifies to the divine intentionality of human conception and life. God “knows” us before we are even born. There is a plan and purpose for each human being – before it is even conceived.
That was true for Jeremiah, but it’s also true of you.
Perhaps you’ve had someone tell you, “God has a plan for your life!”. Sounds trite sometimes, but it happens to be true. You aren’t a mistake or a random collision of microscopic sperm and egg. God had something in mind when he created you. You were created on purpose. What is that purpose? To be hands of feet of Christ to those around you. To live as a follower of Jesus who shares that life with others.
2. Like many of you, I’m troubled by the graphic videos being released documenting executives from Planned Parenthood discussing the sale of body parts from aborted babies. Such sales may be legal, but they are barbaric nonetheless.
Those who support abortion, Christians included, tend to focus almost exclusively on the plight of the mothers who find themselves in.....
